Oh Dear, Friskey suffers injury during Whitstable debut

New Whitstable Town signing Sam Friskey was injured after less than 30 minutes into his debut as their reserve team defeated Lordswood's second string 2-1 on Tuesday night at the Belmont in the Floodlight Trophy, writes Stephen McCartney.

First team striker Andy Constable, whose recently pledged his future to the club after Tunbridge Wells made known their interest, and Darren Budge gave them a 2-0 lead.

Friskey, signed from Kentish Observer League rivals Erith & Belvedere, strained his groin midway through the first half.

"He looks to be out for at least a couple of weeks, physio Graham Brown revealed to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk

"These sort of injuries need resting.  It's the only way I'm afraid.

"The trouble is often these young lads are too impatient and want to get back kicking a ball too early and that can set them back weeks."

And first team player boss, Marc Seager added: "Now we have young goalkeeper Sam Mott in as cover for Marc Brown, the arrival of Sam Friskey means that I have my squad sorted for this season.

"I believe we have the team spirit, the strength in depth through the club's youth policy and Town's very strong reserve set up to move the club forward.

"I am thrilled Sam Friskey has joined us.  Andy Constable has just turned down a move, neither him or Sam were interested in the financial side.

"Both players just want to play with quality players alongside them so that they can perform to the best of their ability.  I feel we can offer them this at Whitstable."

Frsikey, previously an apprentice with Wimbledon FC was being chased by three other Kent League clubs, plus others at a higher level but opted for a move to Belmont.
