VCD Athletic take Courage

VCD ATHLETIC boss Martin Ford wishes striker Jon Main all the best having signed for Ryman League division one side Cray Wanderers - although he admits to not knowing about the move, writes Stephen McCartney.

www.kentishfootball.co.uk revealed last week that Cray Wanderers' manager Ian Jenkins had signed the former VCD Athletic striker from Australian side Perth Panthers.

But Ford told the VCD Athletic website: "We wish him well.  Jon needs to play at a higher level to see if he can make the step up.

"With no money this year and with Jon out of contract, it is not a major surprise but it would have been nice if he had informed the club himself after all they had done for him."

The club, however, will announce shortly some new additions to the first and reserve team backroom staff for next season.

VCD have now confirmed after weeks of speculation they have agreed a new three year shirt sponsorship package with Brewers Courage.

The first team's kit will carry the John Smith's logo for their coming Kent League season.

A club spokesman told their website: "We are thankful to Courage and in particular Mark Hammond, their Area Sales Manager, in backing our club's return home (to Oakwood, Old Road, Crayford).

"It is a good deal for our club and gives us a positive start to the season.

"Hopefully this package is the first of many we hope to receive from the local area."

The club, however, refused to comment that they would be changing their name to Crayford Town next season.
