Ford concentrates fully on Kent League campaign

It has been decided that VCD Athletic won't be running a team in this season's Kent Youth League at under sixteen level, writes Stephen McCartney.

First team boss Martin Ford, who is also in charge of this team, explained the reasons behind the decision.

"The youth side was taking up too much of my time and although I have enjoyed running them, it would have been hard for me to give the effort the players deserve," he told the club's website.

"We have decided that they will drop down to play in the Bexley "A" Division this year and will join forces with the present bunch of players in that side.

"We will consolidate this season before entering them back in the Kent Youth League the following season when our ground will be up and running.

"Its time to put my efforts this year into running the first team."

Having appointed former VCD Athletic defender, Dean Frost - a London black cab driver - as his new coach, Ford is delighted with the former Dartford and Bromley defender's attitude.

"The lads are back for pre-season training and Frosty, the new coach, has been like a breath of fresh air," praised Ford.

"Training has been a lot more intense and the players are enjoying the new set up.

"Things are on the up, whether it stays that way depends on what the players want to do.

"If we stick together we can look forward to a very good season."
