Ramsgate on wrong track before Ditcot cup clash

Thamesmead Town 2 Ramsgate 0
Power 12, Burns 86 (p)
Att 38

Steve Redford reports from Bayliss Avenue

Fortunately only 38 paying guests had to endure this appalling match!

There was very little of note at all in this game, neither side created any decisive openings as both sides cancelled each other out in all departments.

Thamesmead broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when Twyman failed to collect an innocuous cross, dropping the ball to the feet of Clews, in his shock at receiving the ball he allowed the ball to run away from him but into the path of
Power, his tap in from just six yards was merely helped on it way into the vacant net by Yorath.

Finally in the 26th minute the Rams had a shot on target. Gregory's long range effort beat Northwood but cannoned off the cross bar.

Ramsgate started the second half brightly pinning Thamesmead back in their own half for fully ten minutes. However not one real chance was created as the mead defence stood firm.

It wasn't until the 65th minute that another chance went either way. Suter's rasping free kick was match by a fine finger tip save from Northwood, the ball again crashing against the bar and being forced away for a corner.

Dean Burns' 86th minute penalty sealed Thamesmead's victory after Shaun Brown had caught the heels of the lively substitute Williams in the corner of the box.

There will have to be a vast improvement for the Rams if they want to make any progress in the FA Cup at Didcot Town next week.
