Thamesmead draw positives from latest run-out

THAMESMEAD Town assistant manager Kevin McMahon was satisfied with his side's performance in their 1-1 draw in scorching temperatures against Ryman League Division One side Bromley at Bayliss Avenue on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Speaking to the club's website, he said: "It was a good performance, the new signings are settling in and pre-season is going very well.

"I was pleased with the performance of captain Dean Kearley, who has been away on holiday, and that was his first game back.  He seemed to gel well with new signing Mark Dudley and he will play along side David Weatherhead on Tuesday against Gillingham.

"I was also very pleased with the performances from Curtis Williams, Michael Power and Dean Burns, but all in all, things are looking very positive for the new season."

Central defender Weatherhead has signed for the Bayliss Avenue outfit, after spending 18 years at Go Travel Kent League rivals, Beckenham Town.

Speaking about the switch, after long service at Eden Park Avenue, Weatherhead admitted: "It was a very difficuly move to make.

"I have been at Beckenham for a very long time and I have a lot of good friends there.

"But I am at the stage of my career when I want to try and compete at the highest level I can and win things.  That is why I have joined Thamesmead."
