Thamesmead announce Edwards capture from Stones

THAMESMEAD TOWN have collected ten points from their last four Go Travel Kent League games but they face a tough test at Bayliss Avenue on Saturday when Jim Ward's title favourties visit, writes Stephen McCartney.

Ramsgate won their first contest, 3-0 at Southwood Stadium in the league in August but there is plenty of action still to come between these two sides after Saturday's return fixture.

They still have to clash in three semi-final matches.  The Kent Senior Trophy semi-final comes first on Saturday 5th March at Bayliss Avenue before the two-legged Kent League Cup semi-finals contests.

After Saturday's 1-1 draw at Slade Green, Thamesmead returned to winning ways in midweek with a comfortable 2-0 win over Whitstable Town.

Mead striker Dean Burns scored his 17th goal of the season, opening the scoring after 20 minutes from a 25-yard free kick.

Thamesmead had the bulk of the possession but could not increase their lead before the interval.

However, just before the break, Mead's central defender Jon Mayall was taken off with a dislocated shoulder.

The second half, however, was a tight affair but again Mead had the edge on their opponents and Mead skipper Pedro Knight sealed the points scoring from a header within 15 minutes.

Thamesmead's assistant manager Keith McMahon told the club's website: "It was a good team performance.  I thought we defended well, especially after losing Jon Mayall at half time.

"Confidence is high at the moment and we are looking forward to Saturday's game with Ramsgate."

The Mead are pleased to announce the capture of central defender Ross Edwards from Kent League rivals Maidstone United.

He is expected to make his debut against the Rams, and boss Paul Blade added: "This is another major signing for the club and it shows the ambition the club has in signing players like Ross.

"He is still young and has a wealth of experience and is a very good addition to the squad."

Meanwhile, Thamesmead's home game with Deal Town has been brought forward to next Tuesday, 22nd February.
