Montague on target in Slade Green victory
BRENTWOOD 0-3 SLADE GREEN
Report by Robert Smith

Slade Green's summer signing Steve Montague was on target as Green kicked off their pre season campaign with a 3-0 win at Essex League side Brentwood.

It is three months since Green were last in action and it showed during the early stages of this game as they failed to gel as a team and they were thankful to keeper Lee Heywood who produced a fine reflex save before seeing the post then come to their rescue.

Slowly but surely Green began to take control of the game and towards the end of the opening period Marcos Perona saw a shot canon back off the woodwork while Tony Gallagher's fierce goalbound drive was blocked by the keeper.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Green edged ahead as Pedro Knight's neat lay off found Dean Bowey situated on the edge of the area and his delicate chip was too good for the Brentwood keeper.

The ace marksman again was at the helm 5 minutes later, Scott Lewis produced a surging run from deep in midfield before playing the ball towards Bowey whose innocent looking shot somehow drifted in at the far post.

Lewis was again the provider for the third goal that duly arrived in the 65th minute as his cross was headed home by Montague.

Green again face Essex League opposition this coming Thursday in the shape of Basildon United.
