Five star Rams destroy Stones

Unfortunately this game will be more remembered for the last two minutes rather than the preceding 88.

A serious injury to Ramsgate keeper Danny Twyman led to a farcical ending to a bruising encounter that the Rams bossed from start to finish.

The stones game plan seemed to be to unsettle the Rams with some heavy early challenges, Shane Suter, and Stuart Vahid being the main targets.

Ramsgate took immediate control and should have gone ahead in the 4th minute Shaun Welford’s header was well over the line before being hooked away by Maidstone keeper Hill.

The Rams protest for that goal not being given was short lived, as only a minute later, Hill parried another Welford effort but only into the path of Stuart Vahid who struck the ball low inside the far post to give the Rams the lead.

Ramsgate continued to pile on the pressure, but without reward. A rare Maidstone forage saw Rowlands turn Ollie Schulz just inside the box and as he tried desperately to get back the attacker went to ground and Maidstone were awarded a spot kick, which Nick Barnes duly despatched.

The goal sparked the Rams into even more action; the Maidstone keeper was called to prevent efforts from Takaloo, Welford and Vahid from giving the Rams the lead once more.

Eventually the pressure had to be rewarded and in the 37th minute it was, Robbie Summers played the ball through to Welford  out on the right, his low cross was met superbly by Takaloo on the edge of the six yard box, whose deft touch left Hill with no chance, the Rams were back in front.

Maidstone were further punished when Tydeman was given his second yellow card of the afternoon, why?

The game was all but over for Maidstone two minutes later when a weak clearance saw the ball drift out to Warren Schulz who, seeing the keeper out of position, placed the ball inch perfect into the top far corner of the net.

Despite starting well in the second half, and in fact keeping the Rams pushed deep, Maidstone could not make any real chances.

The whole of the Rams defence did their jobs to perfection and gradually, as Maidstone became frustrated, the Rams midfield took control once more.

It would only be a matter of time before Maidstone would be buried for good. Two absolutely brilliant crosses both met and despatched by Takaloo ended the contest before a scuffle out of the frustration went amazingly unpunished by a referee who had already brandished the yellow card on nine occasions.

Then came the most unsavoury incident of the game Strouts challenged Twyman, who had already gathered the ball at the foot of the post, catching the keeper on the neck, Danny lay unmoving in the goal mouth while the ball was hacked away.

The game was then held up for 35 minutes while paramedics and an Ambulance were called.

Once Twyman had been taken off to Medway General Hospital the farce was concluded with the Ramsgate team and the seven Maidstone players who hadn’t gone to the bar playing a game of keepy-up in a huge circle for the remaining two minutes.
