History repeats itself for Ramsgate

Having arranged a pre-season programme that is putting his players against four teams from higher leagues over a two week period, it was pure chance that the first three games for Jim Ward's Ramsgate are the same as the club's impressive FA Cup run from the 1999-2000 season, writes Stephen McCartney.

Like their predecessors from five years earlier, Go Travel Kent League outfit Ramsgate now face local rivals Margate having beaten Dartford and then Folkestone Invicta.

Goals from Ollie Schulz, Mark Adams and Graham Taylor provided Ramsgate with a 3-2 victory over Tommy Sampson's Dartford last Saturday whilst strikes from former Margate striker, Mo Takaloo, Graham Taylor and Shaun Brown sealed the Rams' 3-2 win over Ryman Premier Division newcomers Folkestone Invicta on Tuesday evening.

The Rams will play Margate at Southwood this Sunday, 25th July, the kick off having been brought forward to 2pm as the Ramsgate carnival is talking place later that afternoon.

This local derby always attracts a good crowd, however, for this match any child accompanying an adult paying full price can gain entrance to the game for only £1 with the club's "Quid-a-kid" scheme.

After the Margate game, Ramsgate will be playing host to Sittingbourne and Dover Athletic on Saturday 31st August and on Saturday 7th August respectively.

Looking ahead to their Go Travel Kent League campaign, Ramsgate travel to East London on the opening day (14th August) with a game at Sporting Bengal United, who will be looking for improving on their bottom place last season, whilst their first home game will be against Herne Bay three days later.
