Hythe Town 3-1 Lordswood (att 93)
Go Travel Kent League Premier Division
Saturday 6 September 2003
by Darrell Harman
The game started off badly for Lordswood as in the third minute a Scott Parker free kick from twenty yards flew past the post before slack marking in the seventh minute allowed Hythe Town to take the lead when Mike Yianni on the right crossed to the far post when Jason Brazier rose and headed home from three yards.
Lordswood took and age to settle down and maybe not having a game last week did not help. In the 19th minute they should have equalised when Gallagher on the right crossed to the far post where Steve Clements chested the ball down and had his shot blocked by Allan Williams.
Another chance came in the 23rd minute when a bad back pass let Steve Weeks in and he ran down the left and crossed into the penalty area where it was half cleared to Sam Colyer whose blockbuster shot from twenty yards was deflected into Weeks path who shot wide from ten yards.
Hythe nearly increased their lead in the 34th minute. A corner was floated to Dean Widnall and his header was pushed around the post by Paul Piggott.
Lordswood equalised in the 36th minute when Colyer in the middle of the field passed out to Michael Dodsworth whose cross to the far post evaded everyone except James Short who from two yards headed his second goal of the season.
The second half started like the first, with Hythe on top and two minutes after the break they could have gone ahead when Scott Thomas on the left crossed into the area and Roy Godden's six yard shot was saved by Piggott.
In the 52nd minute Weeks put Short through and he ran on the edge of the penalty area but his shot went into the side netting and from the goal kick the ball went through and Brazier was crowded out inside Lordswood's penalty area and the Lords were able to clear.
Hythe regained the lead in the 58th minute. Lordswood lost possession in midfield and the ball was played quickly into the area for Dean Widwall in acres of space and he shot past Piggott from ten yards.
Nine minutes later Dan Porter made it three when he rose unopposed from a corner to plant his header into the back of the net.
A Thomas cross found Godden and his header was palmed away for a corner from Piggott after 71 minutes.
Lordswood nearly scored a consolation goal when Mike Cunningham passed to Short who returned it back and Alan Williams tipped Cunningham's shot over the crossbar.
