St Leonard's Road
Deal Town 1 Smith 17
Lordswood 2 Doerr 11, Colyer 66

Lordswood got back to winning ways with this great win at Deal Town to remain unbeaten in the Kentish Observer League, writes Darrell Harman.

Lordswood got off to a brilliant start when they took an eleventh minute lead.

It started when Ray Broad put Andy Doerr in and his shot was saved by the onrushing goalkeeper Robert Lindley, but the ball went out to Bob Chiverton, whose cross was volleyed in by Doerr from ten yards.

Deal equalised after 16 minutes when Danny Smith saw his mis-hit cross sail over Gavin Hopper's head and into the net.

Three minutes later Lordswood went close when Mike Cunningham headed Chiveton's cross over the bar.

Deal came close to scoring after 32 minutes but Lordswood cleared the ball off the line following a fumble from the former Chatham Town goalkeeper.

Deal thought they had taken the lead on the stroke of half time when a cross into the area was put into the back of the net but the assistant referee saw a punch and after consulting the referee the goal was ruled out.

Lords' Sean Hetterley, who returned to the side after three weeks out due to work commitments, went down the left wing and his 20-yarder went just over.

But Lordswood took the lead after 66 minutes when Chiverton's corner was met by Sam Colyer, whose powerful header flew into the net despite a valiant attempt from the defender on the line.

Cunningham could and should have capped an impressive performance by scoring when a cross to the back post was met by Forster who headed across the goal for him but his five yard shot was easily saved by the Deal goalkeeper.
