Beckenham shine under the lights
With many first choice players missing Beckenham Town put in
their best performance of the season and got of to the best possible start when
a through ball by centre back Russell Kirby found the powerful Mario Celaire,
who brushed off two Erith defenders to fire Beckenham into a tenth minute lead.
Erith settled in to the game and looked threatening on the break, the visitors
got back on level terms when a hotly contested penalty was awarded to the them,
and scored by Glen McTaggart, this left assistant manager Jason Taylor
very angry at half-time.
The second half saw Beckenham gain control of midfield with Darren Flaherty
outstanding on the left and it was no surprise when he scored from yet another
hotly contested penalty.
The fall-out saw three Erith players booked for protesting to strongly. Flaherty
then set up right back Nathan Paul for the first of his two goals with a cross
from the left after some good work by Ex-Gillingham Academy player Daniel Vella
who created the chance for the cross into the penalty area.
Another inch perfect cross by Flaherty found Paul again who powered his header
past the helpless Erith goalkeeper for number four to complete a miserable night
for the visitors one they will want to forget, but just when they thought it
could not get any worse for theme they had a player dismissed for his second
yellow card.
