Dr Martens League Eastern Division club Burgess Hill Town have signed attacking midfielder Darren Smith from rivals Sittingbourne.

A skilful, attack-minded midfielder, Smith began his playing career as a schoolboy with Sittingbourne.

He progressed into the first-team squad by the age of eighteen, eventually establishing himself as a regular.

During the 1998/99 season he was signed by Gravesend manager Andy Ford, only to return to Sittingbourne later that season.

He was signed by Gravesend for a second time in March 2000 and established himself as a regular for the senior side before returning to 'Bourne again in August 2003.
