Dickson's brace beats under strength Lords

Kentish Observer League Darrell Harman reports from Park View Road
Erith & Belvedere 2 Dickson 27,51
Lordswood 0

Lordswood were without eight first team players for their very first visit to Park View Road - but the players that came in didn't let down the management team but lack of experience told in the end, writes Darrell Harman.

The result might have been different when the visitors had a first minute goal ruled out after Alan Backshell fired home after Sam Colyer headed a free kick at the goalkeeper.

Deres' striker, Chris Dickson, meanwhile, saw his effort fly over the bar and at the other end, Lordswood's Tony Reid on the left, cut inside and his 20-yard shot was saved by Ricky Hall.

But Dickson scored his first goal after 27 minutes when he intercepted a square pass, turned and his 30-yard shot surprised Gavin Hopper and found the net.

Erith & Belvedere settled down after the goal and Anton Innocent's cross went just wide and Tommy Martin 15-yard shot was parried away by Hopper following Dickson's cross.

The home side almost increased their lead within seconds after the interval when Carl Bartley saw his shot parried by Hopper from 15-yards.

But Dickson doubled his tally in the 50th minute when he cut inside, avoided three challenges and from inside the penalty area slid the ball past the former Chatham Town goalkeeper.

The Deres were now in the ascendancy and Steve White's cross was met by Dickson but his shot went wide of the post.

Lordswood's best chance to get back into the game came with 21 minutes left.  Hopper's long clearance was latched onto by Mike Cunningham but his 25-yard shot went just over.

Lordswood: Hopper, Phillips, Russell, Colyer, Crust, Overton (Bucklen 57), Difede, Cormack (Payne 57), Backshell, Cunningham, Reid (Lampard 67).  Subs: Piggott, Nolan
