Deres buzzing as they bounce back

A good team performance saw Erith & Belvedere to victory over Beaconsfield on Tuesday evening.

Manager Barry Lakin gave debuts to two new signings; left-back Simon Clarke joins from Chelmsford City on a non-contract basis whilst 19-year-old striker Seb Numba arrives having been released by Charlton Athletic

It was the visitors who started the brighter and they took the lead in the eighth minute through Arthur.

Going behind seemed to bring Erith to life and they went on to enjoy the better of the first half despite going in behind at the break.

Chris Dickson and Numba both went close, Aboyage had a great chance to equalise but put his effort from 12 yards over the bar, whilst Sol Henry drew a fine save from Watson following a mazy run.

After surviving a scare just after half-time when Callender hit the foot of the post, the Deres equalised when Paul Abbott hit an absolute screamer from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

Aboyage then went close before Dickson hit the bar with a header from a Henry cross.

The home side took the lead in the 80th minute when Ryan Briggs's through ball caused problems in the Rams defence and Dickson reacted well, rounding Watson and slotting home from close range.

The Buckinghamshire side almost fashioned an instant equaliser but Arthur saw his shot come back off the upright.

However, the Deres made sure of the points when substitute Darren Adams capitalised on a mistake by Paxton to score with a wonderful lob over a stranded Watson.

Lakin praised his teams effort and added:  "That was just what we needed after losing 5-1 to East Thurrock.

"It was a great effort and I was very pleased with the team spirit. As the players left the pitch there was a buzz around the pitch and I thank the supporters for backing us.

"We go into Saturdays home game against Barton Rovers at Park View Road full of optimism and are looking for three points."

* Speaking 24-hours before the Barton Rovers clash, Erith & Belvedere manager Barry Lakin announced he has injury worries for his second home game of the season.

With Mark Chapman unavailable, he will also be without new signing Seb Numba, who made his debut in the 3-1 midweek win over Beaconsfield, after being snapped up from Charlton Athletic.  He is doubtful with a thigh strain.

Playmaker Dean Fenton picked up knee ligament damage in a pre-season friendly at Bromley seven days before the season, and is also out of action, and Ray Aboagye is rated doubtful with a sore calf.

Lakin revealed he will draft in Chris Dickson and has signed striker Lewis Wood from Ryman League Division One neighbours Cray Wanderers, and he is set to make his debut on Saturday, replacing left winger Sol Henry, who has signed for league rivals Waltham Forest.

Erith & Belvedere: Seitsonen, Cumberbatch, Clarke, Tozer, Brown (capt), Henry (S.Abbott, 73 Mins), Briggs, P.Abbott, Dickson (Chapman, 89 Mins), Numba (Adams, 69 Mins), Aboagye.  Subs not used: Whitehouse, Morrish

Attendance: 101
