Second string bring success to Erith & Belvedere

DESPITE a miserable season in the Dr Martens League, Erith & Belvedere had something to celebrate when their reserve side secured promotion from the Go Travel Kent League Second Division, writes Stephen McCartney.

Speaking on the club's website, reserve team manager, Wayne Baldacchino, said: "It was a great day for all connected with the club and about time too!  The reserves were superb today.  There was quality throughout from start to finish and I certainly had a lump in my throat at the final whistle."

He added: "I am extremely proud of every single player for their performance today against Maidstone United and for their commitment and desire during the season."

The Stones were beaten by two goals to nil, and the second string boss praised the players he works with.  He added: "They are a fantastic bunch of players with great ability and hopefully have successful futures with the club.

"Today they played with passion, desire, guts and determination and outplayed the team who are still likely to win the title."
