I'll make Ryan a much better player, insists Burman

Dartford manager Tony Burman insists he will do all he can to make winger Ryan Hayes a much better player, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation for the Southern League Division One East outfit after joining them from Kent League neighbours Slade Green towards the end of last season.

"If there was a poll from full-backs in our division on who they would not like to face every week, Ryan would be top of the list, Burman told www.dartfordfc.co.uk

"In my opinion, at times Ryan going forward and attacking full backs and picking out players can be superb but his defensive qualities can be a lot to be desired.

"However, if he did not have faults he would not be at Dartford or in non-league football and he would be full-time.

"I want to try and improve his faults but at the same time still encourage him going forward.  This takes time but we only have to look at Richard Avery and the progress he has made.

"Last season there was much talk regarding whether or not Richard was strong enough or good enough for our level.

"But I have worked with Richard on and off the field for the last four years and this season he has found the consistency in his performance, which for a lad that is still only nineteen has allowed him to be ever present in the team so far this season.

"Because of his attitude and willingness to learn I think we could have a major asset on our hands for this and the coming seasons."
