Dartford looking for winning habit

DARTFORD manager Tommy Sampson has insisted he will be looking for winning performances from his squad, starting with their next game, after a week playing Go Travel Kent League opposition, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Darts' have played four matches in the last eight days.  They opened with a 3-2 defeat at Ramsgate before playing two games on the same night, drawing Herne Bay 1-1 and defeating Lordswood 2-1 before losing to a last minute goal - the only goal of the game, at VCD Athletic today (Sunday).

But now it's time to get into a winning habit, ready for their Southern League Division One East opener at Boreham Wood in three weeks time.

And Sampson wants his side to start getting into that habit on Tuesday, when they make the trip to Ryman League Division One outfit Ashford Town.

The Homelands club, however, will also be looking to bounce back, following their 6-1 defeat at Ryman Premier Division neighbours Folkestone Invicta on Saturday, which saw Neil Cugley's side win the annual Sid Burvill Cup for the fifth successive season.

Samspon revealed: "We've given the players this week for nothing - made loads of substitutions, gave two eighteen-year-old wing backs games, and we've messed about with bits and pieces and players.

"The one thing we've got out of this week is the level of fitness for everybody.  I am pleased with the level of fitness, so as off now, we are looking for a winning mentality and people to fight for their places.

"We've played Kent League opposition all week, and got what we expected - four tough, physical games, which is all part of the training programme.

"From now on we are trying to win games and mold a winning side."

Send in your club's news and we will publish it!
