Steve Binks' side are still unbeaten in the
Southern League division one east after their opening four games of the
season, writes Neil Sanders.
Chatham started well and nearly opened the scoring after five minutes. Mark Brookes was just denied when Enfield keeper Lee Robinson intercepted a long ball over the defence. In the end they had to wait 32 minutes for their first goal. A short corner was played back to Andy Garrett, who whipped in a cross which was met with a powerful header by Andy Boyle.
Shortly before half time they deservedly increased
their lead. After an excellent tackle by man of the match Boyle to
win possession, Brookes was fouled near the right touchline. The
resulting free kick found the head of teenager Rob Denness whose flick
header gave the keeper no chance.
After having arrived late, Enfield appeared to
compose themselves at half time and came out with more purpose.
Pacy midfielder Nathan Smith looked the most likely danger and Steve
Binks quickly countered this by instructing Tom Binks to keep tight to
him.
The Medway side stayed solid at the back and the closest the visitors came to scoring was from a deflected shot by Smith, which sent Louis Green scrambling across his line to save.
Chatham put the icing on the cake three minutes
from time. Matt Solly played a pass through into the open space
behind the Enfield defence, which allowed sub Byron Walker to sprint on
to it, round the keeper and slot home into the open goal.
An excellent performance, good entertainment and Chatham go into Saturday's FA Cup preliminary round tie against North Leigh at Maidstone Road full of confidence. Steve Binks' and his players will value your support!
