Thorogood steps down as Ashford manager

ASHFORD TOWN chief executive Mark Jenner has announced Tim Thorogood would be stepping down as team manager with immediate effect, writes Stephen McCartney.

An announcement regarding a replacement manager would be made in due course but Tony Reynolds would be in charge of the team for Tuesday's Ryman League Division One  trip to Leatherhead.

Thorogood, however, will be continuing as chairman of the Homelands club and would be taking a closer interest in the new youth development programme being put in place by combining the role of director of football with that of chairman.

Thorogood said: "I am very sad to be stepping down but I had been finding it difficult to devote sufficient time to the role in recent months."

Thorogood revealed his major priority was running his own successful and expanding business based in Charlton.

He added: "The most important thing was the success of the club and now was the right time to hand over day to day responsibility for team affairs."
