Dons punish Ashford's youngsters

ASHFORD TOWN'S under fourteen's suffered a disappointing 4-2 home defeat at the hands of a strong but direct AFC Wimbledon side, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Kent side made the worse possible start to the game, conceding in the first minute.  However, once they had settled after their initial set back, they started to get back into the game and just before the break, Laurence Harvey's wonder strike levelled proceedings.

A defensive mix up saw the Surrey side take the lead in the second period, but Ashford battled back and Liam Holam's cross-shot from the last kick of the period levelled the score.

Town made a change in formation for the start of the third period and then slowly took the game to their opponents with Ricky Harden and Holman both providing a threat down the flanks.

Although they created enough chances, a third goal failed to materilase for Ashford.

Once again, direct play from AFC Wimbledon provided decisive and twice caused the home side to make individual errors, despite Ashford dominating the early part of the half.

Ashford Town's under fourteens are still looking to strengthen their squad prior to their MUSH Kent Youth League campaign.  Anyone who feels they are capable of playing in this standard, and willing to commit to two training sessions a week, and progress through the ranks at The Homelands club, should contact Vince Shell by email   vince.shell@ashford.gov.uk or by telephoning  07919174509.
