Margate accept demotion to return to Hartsdown Park
GRAVESEND & Northfleet will be the sole Kent representatives in next season's Conference as Margate have voted by "overwhelming majority" to drop one division in order to return to their Hartsdown Park base, writes Stephen McCartney.
Chris Kinnear's side will join Welling United in the Conference South when the campaign gets underway in August, after the Hartsdown Park issued the following statement on Friday regarding their immediate future.
It read: "The members of Margate Football Club Ltd, at an EGM called specifically to determine the immediate future of the club, voted by overwhelming majority in favour of proposed option D.
"Members were keen to see their football club return to Hartsdown Park and were prepared to concede full Conference status in order to do so.
"The view of the members was then referred to the club directors, who ratified the view of the members, thus confirming that Margate Football Club will accept demotion to Conference South returning to Hartsdown Park before the turn of the year."
