Margate wise to cash in on McFlynn
Morecambe have announced the signing of Northern Ireland under-21 international Terry McFlynn from Nationwide Conference rivals Margate.

A fee of £14,000 subject to medical and personal terms was agreed between the clubs.

Signed initially on loan by Margate in December 2001, McFlynn made an immediate impact in front of a packed Hartsdown Park with a spectacular 30-yard goal against champions-elect Boston United.

Although his permanent signing was almost inevitable, it was not until the end of the season that he became a Margate player. His second season for 'Gate was a bit of a shock, he turned up looking overweight and lethargic, and his game
suffered as he lost his first-team spot.

A Northern Ireland under-21 international, he has been playing for them as an 'over-age' player, gaining invaluable experience.

Margate chairman Jim Parmenter said: "Morecambe were very keen on signing Terry and he wanted the chance to train full-time.

"We are particularly strong in midfield in terms of the number of players who can play there and the move makes sense for all parties. The move will involve a sell-on clause in addition to the fee."
