Wings chairman: We need your support to reach play-offs

Thursday 06th April 2006

Welling United chairman Graham Hobbins has urged their vociferous home crowd to continue getting behind the high-flying Wings in their Nationwide Conference South play-off quest, writes Alex Leach - www.bexleytimes.co.uk

Welling were cheered on to a magnificent 1-0 win over Garry Hill’s Weymouth - who were league leaders at the time - by a raucous Park View Road faithful two weeks ago and Hobbins wants more of the same for the crucial run in - starting with Saturday’s clash with Newport County.

“What we really honestly need is for as many people as possible to come out for our remaining home games to give the players a lift, because it definitely does,” Hobbins said.

“There was probably 25 per cent more noise in the ground against Weymouth two weeks ago and it gives the players so much more than just having a very quiet ground with four or five hundred people in it.”

Welling’s last home match though was a glamour game against the table toppers; Wing fans may be less enthralled by upcoming home games against Newport County (Saturday), Eastbourne Borough and Bishop’s Stortford.

But Hobbins hope the Wings fans that turned up in force for the Terrors victory come flooding back in the forthcoming weeks.

He said: “We really need to maintain something close to that 905 crowd for Newport County, Eastbourne Borough and Bishop’s Stortford, which are all massive home games for us.”
