Whitstable Town unveil the arrival of former Sittingbourne striker Ryan Golding

Wednesday 04th June 2014
WHITSTABLE TOWN have tonight unveiled the arrival of former Sittingbourne striker Ryan Golding, who scored 20 goals last season.

Newly-appointed joint-managers and brothers, Jim and Danny Ward, unveiled the striker as their latest signing, having beaten off competition from several other clubs to land the former Crockenhill goal-machine.

Danny Ward told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk: “It’s coming together. Both Jim and me are really excited about the players joining the club which are a mixture of experience and youth.

“We hope the fans are equally as excited as us?”

Since joining the club three weeks ago today the Ward’s phones haven’t stopped ringing with various players expressing their interest in joining the club.

Jim Ward added: “Don’t believe everything you read on other club’s forums or websites! It’s not all down to money! Players want to come and play for us.”

The Ward’s targeted only a few of last year’s squad with highly-rated goalkeeper Luke Watkins, winger Scott Heard and midfielder Jake Mackenzie whom have all signed, whilst the much-fancied Joe Kane has decided to re-sign for Southern Counties East Football League side Lordswood.

Fringe squad player and under 21’s leading scorer Joe Lester has also put pen to paper as have the majority of the eligible and successful under 21s from last term.

Danny Ward added that he’s still hopeful that another couple of fans’ favourties from last year will rejoin the squad.

Also rejoining the club and signed last night are the highly-rated Connor Heffernan, who joins striker Ian Pulman at the club from league rivals Ramsgate.

Cameron Heffernan, 17, has also signed for Whitstable Town.

Ashley Ulph returns to Whitstable from Sittingbourne, whom he originally joined under then Whitstable manager Peter Nott.

They join the already confirmed Simon Petit, Nick Treadwell, Oliver Gray, Luke Girt and Pulman.

Whilst looking to work with a relatively small squad, Jim Ward added: “The under 21s will continue to play a big part and be given every opportunity to impress.”

The Ward brothers now seek to finalise their management team with the appointment of both under 21 and under 21 managers together with physio cover.

If you wish to apply for these roles please contact secretary@whitstabletownfc.co.uk with your details and qualifications in the first instance.

Training starts on Saturday 28 June at 10:00 for existing players and invited trailists.

Danny Ward wants to record the club’s highest ever finish since joining the Ryman League Division One South after winning the Kent League under Marc Seager back in 2007.

The club’s highest ever finish was in fourteenth-place in the table in their first campaign in the Ryman League and last season Nicky Southall guided the club to 20th place (bottom five) but reached the FA Trophy Second Round for the first time in their history.

Danny Ward said: “Whitstable have fantastic support especially for a club that have struggled in recent seasons.”
