WHITSTABLE TOWN chairman Gary Johnson has unveiled his new management team.

Brothers Jim and Danny Ward have been appointed to replace Nicky Southall, 42, who submitted his resignation on Twitter on 7 May 2013.

The Ward brothers have been out of football management since stepping down as Sittingbourne’s management team following their 3-0 win at Chatham Town in the Kent Senior Cup First Round last September 2013.

“The Club are delighted to announce the appointment of brothers Jim and Danny Ward to spearhead and lead the Oystermen’s football management team into the forthcoming Ryman League campaign; in addition to first team responsibilities they will also oversee the player development through the under 21s and & under 18’s respectively,” said Mr Johnson, in his statement.

“Well known throughout Kent and with a history of achievement having previously guided and enjoyed success at Ramsgate (1996-2001 and 2004-2012) and with Maidstone United in the intervening period within the Kent League (2001-2004) the Ward’s illustrated their passion, determination and organisational savvy which resulted in their appointment.

“Planning for next season can now start in earnest; both the club and the Ward’s looking forwards with combined optimism.

“The short term goal must be to build on the previous years’ Ryman League performances, measured by the end of season league position, to produce a competitive and more consistent team performance which in turn attracts more supporters through the turnstiles and thus increases commercial revenue; the club have the foundations and ambition to progress but equally recognise the intensity of the task in hand.”

The club finished in 20th place (bottom five) in the Ryman League Division One South table last season with 53 points from 46 league games.
