Lee Martin cannot wait to get started after being appointed manager of newly-promoted Isthmian League side Whitstable Town

Tuesday 19th May 2026

WHITSTABLE TOWN chairman Steve Clayton has appointed Lee Martin as their new manager last night.

The 39-year-old managed two Isthmian League Premier Division sides in Welling United and Ramsgate last season, departing Southwood Stadium the day after the club were defeated 1-0 (after extra time) by Wingate & Finchley in the Velocity Cup Final on 15 April.

Whitstable Town, meanwhile, celebrated winning the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division title last season but Jamie Coyle and his assistant manager Matt Longhurst opted to move to Margate this month, despite agreeing two-year contracts to stay at the club.

Martin, brings with him a wealth of experience, having enjoyed an excellent playing career across both the professional and non-League ranks, playing for the likes of Manchester United, Ipswich Town, Millwall and Gillingham.

“We are really pleased to welcome Lee to Whitstable Town Football Club,” said Clayton’s club statement.

“This is a very really important appointment for the club. We have worked incredibly hard over the last few years to move Whitstable Town forward, not just with the first team but across the whole football club.

“As we prepare for life in the Isthmian League South East League, it was vital that we appointed someone who understands the level, understands the demands of non-league football and shares our ambition for where this club can go.

“Lee has had an excellent career in football and brings with him real experience, knowledge and professionalism.

“We are confident that he can help steer us through the next stage of our journey and continue the progress we have made both on and off the pitch.

“We now look forward to working closely with Lee as preparations begin for the new season.”

Martin, who will meet the Belmont faithful for the first time in a Meet the Manager evening at the club on Friday 22 May, added: “I am delighted to be appointed manager of Whitstable Town Football Club.

“This is a club that has clearly been on a fantastic journey in recent years and I am excited to now be part of that.

“The progress made on and off the pitch is clear to see and there is a real ambition here to keep moving the club forward in the right way.

“I know the challenge that lies ahead as we step into the Isthmian League South East League, but it is one I am really looking forward to.

“There is a strong foundation at the club, a passionate supporter base, and a real community feel around Whitstable Town.

“My focus now is on building a competitive squad, setting high standards and making sure we are ready for the season ahead.  I cannot wait to get started.”

The Oystermen claimed the ninth-tier Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division title by finishing 19 points clear of runners-up Fisher and return to the Isthmian League after a four-year absence.
