It will be a massive occasion for this football club and the club deserves to be there, says Whitstable Town boss Scott Porter

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Scott Porter says Sunday’s Kent Reliance Senior Trophy Final date against Sheppey United is a big game for the club.

The Oystermen came away from Croydon with a professional 2-0 win at the Croydon Sports Arena on Wednesday night, courtesy of two goals in the first half from Stuart West’s header and Danny Williams’ strike.

Porter’s men are in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, level on points (59) and games (28) with second-placed Crowborough Athletic as the pair look to join Sevenoaks Town in the Bostik League next season.

With his side 18 games unbeaten, Porter’s attention now turns to beating fourteenth-placed Sheppey United in Sunday’s Cup Final.

“It’s a big game, of course it is.  I’m glad we’ve got Croydon out of the way now and we can concentrate on that,” said Porter, who wants to win two Cups and promotion this season.

“There’s no favourites in it, it’s a one-off game, league positions are irrelevant.

“They're always tight games between us and Sheppey and we’re looking forward to it.

“We’ve had a lot of pressure leading up to this Cup final because of our league position and how many games we’ve got to play,  Now we can enjoy the cup final, prepare for it the right way and it will be a massive occasion for this football club and the club deserves to be there.”

When asked which trophy he wants to win the most, Porter made his intensions known.

“I want all three, simple as that! It’s massive to win a treble at any level of football, it’s a big thing!

“We said that to the boys and they want it, we all want it.  We’re at this stage, we’ve come this far, why wouldn’t you not want it?  I will do anything possible and so will my players to do that.

“It will be a tough game, they always are.  Cup finals are one-off's but we’ll have a game plan and we’ll stick to it and we’ll try to win a cup for Whitstable.”
