Whitstable Town boss Scott Porter: Catch Sevenoaks? Of course we can!

Thursday 01st February 2018

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Scott Porter says his side will catch Sevenoaks Town.

The Oystermen extended their unbeaten run to seven games after coming away from nine-man Erith Town with a 2-0 win at Oakwood last night to book their place in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy Semi-Finals and a home date against Cray Valley on Saturday 10 February.

Ricky Freeman drilled in a tenth-minute penalty before the Dockers were reduced to ten men just 13 minutes later when midfielder Harrison Hume picked up two yellow cards, despite a straight red-card challenge on Whitstable’s left-wing-back Josh Burchell.

Freeman had a second penalty saved by Adam Molloy, who made a string of saves during a game that Whitstable dominated.

Erith Town central defender Jack Hooper was also sent-off in the 65th minute for two fouls on Freeman and then Chris Saunders and Rob Gilman slotted home into the bottom far corner following a corner with 15 minutes left.

Sevenoaks Town sit at the summit of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 44 points from 19 games.

Beckenham Town are in second with 43 points from 21 games, followed by Crowborough Athletic and Whitstable Town with 42 points from 21 games.

Whitstable Town host basement side Hollands & Blair on Saturday, a side that have won once and drawn two of their 21 league outings and arrive at The Belmont having lost six of their last seven since Clint Gooding took over from Bryan Greenfield.

“We focus on what we’ve got on Saturday, set-up the right way, don’t take things for granted because we haven’t achieved anything yet,” said Porter, who has brought back goalkeeper coach Mark Lane after his departure from Bostik South side Hythe Town.

“It’s a banana skin, they’re fighting for their lives and we’re fighting at the top so we have to be professional and do a job.

“Catch Sevenoaks? Of course we can and everyone will be saying that.  We have 17 games to go, anything can happen and there’s going to be many twists and turns until the end of the season and as long as we’re up there fighting for it, you never know.”
