White unveils three transfer targets

Wednesday 24th January 2007
Terry White is going to have a busy week as he continues to plot a promotion charge for Dover Athletic, writes Justin Allen. The caretaker-boss will be talking to three potential new signings - as well as watching one of them in action tonight.

Terry confirmed that he had made an approach for Hastings skipper and centre-half Sean Ray - as well as Leatherhead midfielder Steve Sargent and Hailsham Town striker Dan Leach.

Sargent is an influential player at the centre of the park, while Ray is a solid campaigner for Hastings.

Leach has already scored more than 20 goals this term for Sussex League club Hailsham - and Terry will be watching him tonight.

The former Brighton youngster can also play at the centre of defence.

Terry told www.doverathletic.com : "I put these seven-day notices in after we lost to Molesey.

"It shows a week is a long time in football as we've won our last two games. However, I still believe these players will improve our squad and freshen it up a bit.

"Dan Leach may only be playing County League football but to have scored more than 20 goals at this stage of the season is a good effort.

"I've seen him play before but want to take another look at the lad in action this week.

"Maybe none of these players will come to Crabble - but if they do it will make us much stronger."

Big Tel admitted that if all three deals came off, then he would need to shift a player out - due to budget reasons.

Terry revealed that some players were disappointed by being dropped from the last two games.

But he said: "It's up to those who have been dropped to fight their way back in the team. They need to train well and take their chance by performing well when they return to the side.

"The spirit in the camp is good and you could see that when Lee Spiller's free-kick went in at Kingstonian on Saturday.

"I am desperate to help get Dover Athletic into that top spot - and want to do it for the chairman because he has shown great faith in me.

"He's ambitious and wants to succeed. I like working with people like that."

Dover Athletic welcome Whyteleafe to Crabble on Saturday (3pm) for a Ryman League Division One South fixture.
