We will not use the weather break as an excuse, says Herne Bay boss Sam Denly

Friday 10th January 2014
HERNE BAY manager Sam Denly says he cannot wait to get back in action at Ramsgate tomorrow.

The Bay last took to the field on 21 December when they came away from Guernsey with a 4-2 defeat and subsequent games against Whitstable Town, Folkestone Invicta, Faversham Town and Worthing were all called off because of the weather.

Herne Bay arrive at Southwood Stadium sitting slap bang in the middle of the Ryman League Division One South table, having collected 31 points from 23 games.

The Rams are in eighth-place in the table with 35 points from 24 games.

Tim Dixon’s side are seven points adrift of fifth-placed Guernsey, who occupy the final play-off berth.

“Looking forward to the game this weekend against Ramsgate,” said Denly, who is in his first season in charge of Herne Bay.

“They’re a proven club at this level and are going well under Tim Dixon this season so we know it will be a hard place to go, but we have trained well and go there full of confidence despite not playing for nearly three weeks.”

It has been a frustating time for Herne Bay due to the weather conditions but Denly insists the team have put in the graft on the training field and will be ready to face their near neighbours tomorrow.

Denly said: “Before the break we were playing good football so the weather break has come at a bad time for us but we have trained hard every week and will not use the weather as an excuse.

“The boys have kept fitness levels up and when we do start playing again, hopefully this Saturday, we will be ready to go again and continue the form we were showing before the weather hit.”
