We've got to be competitive in every game, says Francis

CRAY WANDERERS assistant manager Joe Francis says he is expecting a tough encounter away to Boreham Wood on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

After beating Whitstable Town 3-0 at home in the second round of the Kent Senior Cup, Ian Jenkins’ men kept clean sheets in their league wins over Hendon, Waltham Abbey and AFC Hornchurch and as a result climbed up to thirteenth place in the Ryman Premier League table, their highest position so far this season.

But last night’s 3-2 defeat at Tonbridge Angels dented progress, and Francis, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk last night, wants his men to bounce back at Boreham Wood at the weekend.

But he warned: “Hard, hard game, against a good side. Every game in this league is hard, it doesn’t matter if you’re playing a team that’s bottom of the league, like we did against Waltham Abbey, that was a tough, tough game.

“There’s only 10 points between 14 teams and I think that illustrates you’ve got to be at it every single match because there’s a lot of good teams in the league.

“It’s a very competitive league. People would say that maybe it isn’t as competitive, but I’d say it’s more competitive. All the players are of a certain standard and you have to maintain that week in week out.”
