We've got a good blend of youth and experience in the side, says Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders

MAIDSTONE UNITED have confirmed that Alex Brown, Stephen Butcher and Charley Robertson have agreed deals for the new season.

The signing of the versatile trio is a boost for Stones boss Jay Saunders just a fortnight before the squad returns for pre-season training.

This will be the third season at the Gallagher Stadium for 21-year-old Brown, who signed midway through 2012/13 campaign.

Since joining from Gillingham, he’s made more than 70 appearances, scoring on 15 occasions – most memorably the third goal in the Stones Ryman League Division One South play-off final win over Faversham Town.

After a successful loan spell with Maidstone at the end of last season, Butcher returns following his release from The Gills over the summer. The 19-year-old showed great potential during his six appearances in which he played in a number of positions.

Having completed his two-year course at the club’s football academy, 18-year-old Robertson has pledged his immediate future to the Stones. He made 40 appearances for the first team last season, as well as helping the under 21s and academy team secure two league championships and one cup title.

Saunders told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk: “I am pleased to get these deals done. All three are a good age and, with the right attitude, they’ve got the potential to go far. Supporters know Browny and Charley well and briefly got to see what Butch is about during his loan spell.

“We’ve got a good blend of youth and experience in the side and these signings give us the strength in depth we need. It’ll be great to get all the boys back in a couple of weeks and start preparations for this much-anticipated season.”
