We've finished our season on a high, says Hythe Town boss Scott Porter

Thursday 26th April 2012
HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter claims the season finished on Tuesday night.

Porter’s heroes pulled off their third giant-killing of the season when they walked away from Princes Park with the Kent Senior Cup for the very first time in the club’s history following their shock 1-0 win over Dartford.

A seventh minute penalty from captain Dave Cook and a world-class goalkeeping display by American Dean Ruddy ensured the prestigious silverware went to Reachfields Stadium for the very first time.

Hythe, who won the Kent League title last season, certainly done it the hard way after knocking out last season’s Kent Senior Trophy winners Erith Town in the second round.

But from then on, Hythe Town pulled off three giant-killings to stun the Princes Park faithful.

Hythe came away from Blue Square Bet (Conference) Premier side Ebbsfleet United with a shock 4-1 win (after extra time) at Stonebridge Road, before they pulled off another giant-killing when they humbled their neighbouring Conference South giants, Dover Athletic 3-0 in the semi-finals.

And another Conference South side in Dartford were defeated, courtesy of Cook’s early penalty, which sent the travelling fans into dream world.

“It’s fantastic to beat these clubs, especially with the squads they put out,” said an emotional Porter, whose passionate approach on the touchline is reflected out on the pitch.

“They’re not makeshift sides, they’ve put Conference South and Conference Premier teams on the team sheet and we’ve won again.  We haven’t even conceded a goal to be fair against Dartford or Dover in the trip and that’s credit to everyone.  It’s fantastic!”

Hythe Town can complete their inaugural Ryman League Division One South campaign in eighth place if they win away to Merstham on Saturday.

But Porter, who was speaking out on the Princes Park pitch following his club’s greatest ever night, said: “I’ve finished on a high.   This is our high.  I don’t care what happens Saturday to be honest with you.”
