We're no where near where I want us in terms of performances, says Matt Longhurst

Friday 24th October 2014
ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Matt Longhurst has made a couple of loan signings from Dagenham & Redbridge ahead of their trip to Tunbridge Wells tomorrow.

The Deres are seven points clear at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League table with eleven wins, one draw and one defeat and travel to play Martin Larkin’s side that are in fourth-place, ten points behind.

“Last week was a tough game away at Lordswood and this week will be even tougher with a team that have fantastic support and Martin has been there a long time now and had lots of success and is obviously looking to win the league this year,” said the former Corinthian manager.

“We go into the game under no pressure at all. We’ve only just started our project here at Erith & Belvedere and although we sit top of the table, I honestly don’t feel we’re near where I want us in terms of our performances. It’s going to take time.

“Losing Alfie May (who scored 25 goals before signing for Vanarama Conference South side Farnborough) a couple of weeks back was disappointing but we’ve waited to get the right person in to suit the group and suit the way we play, so we’re pleased to announce the signing of Byron Walker, who fits that mould perfectly.

“We’ve also this week strengthened the group by signing Mason Bloomfield and Lee Hursitt from Dagenham & Redbridge on loan and I thank Wayne (Burnett) and the club for allowing this to happen.

“We’re close to signing one other forward this weekend ready for Tuesday night’s home game against Fisher (in the London Senior Cup).

“This should show our intent on replacing the forwards we’ve lost and released recently.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s trip to Culverden Stadium, Longhurst said: “It’s always a tough place to go but an enjoyable one with the brilliant support. It makes it a proper football match with an atmosphere.”

“The players have been excellent of late and I trust them to continue in the same vein this week. As ever, we’ll go there, work hard, play the right way and look to win the game.”

Tomorrow’s game will also see the return of Chris Seenan and Aaron Lacy to their former stomping ground.
