We're looking to get as many points on the board early on, says Herne Bay boss Sam Denly

Sunday 10th August 2014
HERNE BAY boss Sam Denly says his side dropped two points in their opening league game of the season at relegated Carshalton Athletic.

The Bay came away from Colston Avenue with a point following a goal-less draw and Denly was pleased with his side’s performance.

He said: “We was excellent Saturday. If you had asked me before the game I would have been happy with a point but on the day it was definitely two points dropped.

“It was an excellent team performance against an experienced Carshalton side and it some decisions had gone our way we would have come away with the win.

“We need to take that performance into Tuesday night when we play our first home game of the season against Hythe.”

Tim Dixon’s first game in charge of Hythe Town ended in a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Burgess Hill Town.

Burgess Hill, who finished in the top six last season, won it through Greg Luer, who accepted a gift from defender Laurence Harvey and goalkeeper Dan Eason.

Denly said: “Hythe will be a strong outfit as they are every season. If we stick to what we know and put some individual performance in as they did Saturday then on our day we will be a hard side to beat for any one.

“Last season we was very inconsistent and that’s something I expect to be different this time around.

“It’s a busy schedule in the first few months, a lot of games coming thick and fast and all the squad will play their part.”

Walton Casuals, who went down to a 2-0 home defeat to Hastings United on Saturday, arrive at Winch’s Field next Saturday.

Denly said: “We have Walton Casuals on Saturday, which will be another good test. They’re a side who done well last season and look to play football, which hopefully allows for a decent game.

“We’ll keep working hard going about our business quietly and look to get as many points on the board early on.”
