Welling United boss Jamie Day looks forward to Charlton Athletic visit

Thursday 10th July 2014
WELLING UNITED manager Jamie Day says he is looking forward to the club’s yearly visit from neighbours Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The Wings finished in sixteenth-place in the Conference Premier last season and have been made second favourites for relegation by bookmakers along with their reprieved Kent rivals Dartford.

The visit of Charlton Athletic – who finished in eighteenth-place in the Championship table, finishing on 51 points from 46 games, seven points clear of relegation – always brings in a large crowd to boost the coffers for the Park View Road club.

“We are looking forward to the yearly visit of Charlton,” said Day.

“It will be a very tough game as normal but one we enjoy and we get a good work-out from.

“It will also be good for some of the new ones to get a feel for the home ground and a chance for supporters to see the new signings.”

The Wings opened their pre-season campaign with a 4-1 win away to Ryman League Division One South side Sittingbourne on Tuesday night.

Goals were scored from Harry Beautyman, Charlie Penney and a brace from Joe Healy.
