Hopefully we can keep the run going and have a good Christmas period, says Welling United boss Jamie Day

WELLING UNITED manager Jamie Day says he is preparing his side for three vital  games over the Christmas period.

The Wings can now look forward to a trip to their Vanarama National League neighbours Bromley in the Last 32 of The Buildbase FA Trophy after thrashing Ryman League Division One South side Hythe Town 8-1 at Park View Road last weekend.

Bromley were held to a 1-1  draw at home to Ryman Premier Leaguers Leiston, but Neil Smith’s side won the replay 5-3 in Suffolk last night and the two sides meet at Hayes Lane on 14 January 2017.

Welling United remain in the bottom three in the Vanarama National League South with 15 points from 20 games but Day has guided the club to three wins on the spin after taking over team affairs from Mark Goldberg, who is concentrating on running the club and his own personal business interests.

The Wings face the two sides immediately above them in the league table in their next three games, starting with Saturday’s home game against Concord Rangers.

Welling United knocked Adam Flanagan’s side out of The Buildbase FA Trophy in Day’s first game back in charge of Park View Road and the Canvey Island based outfit are two places and five points clear of the Kent side going into the game.

Welling United then travel to Margate on Boxing Day, before the return match at Park View Road on Sunday 1 January 2017.

“Concord is going to be a tough game, it was a tough game at their place and they had three players out that day,” said Day.

“We need to make sure that we focus on working hard and take that into the game.

“We’ve got Margate who are in a bit of a situation but sometimes it can work in your favour when you’ve got young lads and people who want to impress.

“They’re not easy games at all and we need to get some points from them and hopefully keep the run going and have a good Christmas period. That’s what we want at the club here and steer us up the table.”
