We have to enjoy where we are, says Dartford manager Tony Burman

Wednesday 28th March 2012
DARTFORD manager Tony Burman says supporters should be enjoying the club’s lofty position in the Blue Square Bet (Conference) South table.

The Darts go into Saturday’s home clash against Maidenhead United sitting in second place in the table, with 75 points from 35 games.

The Kent club are only eight points adrift of season long league leaders Woking and there is plenty to play for during their last remaining seven league games.

However, there was a sense of disappointment following their surprise 1-0 defeat away to Dorchester Town last weekend, made worse when news had filtered through that Woking had lost too.

Burman’s men welcome Maidenhead United to Princes Park on Saturday, on the back of their impressive 3-1 home win over Charlton Athletic last night.

The Darts booked their place in the Kent Senior Cup Final for the second successive season when the holders booked their place courtesy of goals from Jack Pallen (who has returned following a five-game loan spell at Thamesmead Town), Lee Noble and substitute Elliot Bradbrook.

Dartford will be favourites to land their eleventh Kent Senior Cup success against Ryman League Division One South side Hythe Town, whose only previous final was back in 1992, when they were defeated in extra-time by Bromley.

Maidenhead United arrive in Kent sitting three points clear of the relegation zone in seventeenth-place in the table.

“We’ll try our best to win, that’s for sure,” said Burman.

“I feel on and off the field we have to stay calm, we mustn’t be nervous, we must keep our composure, get on with enjoying where we are.

“Don’t be doom and gloom or anything like this.  Let’s enjoy what we’re doing.

“I just feel we have to enjoy where we are.  It’s been a good season.  There’s plenty to play for and why are people trying to be a little bit negative?  I don’t think they should be!

“There’s plenty to play for.  All we can do is try keep getting our three points.

“If we get the backing of the crowd – they’ve been excellent for us.  They were excellent on Saturday, the guys who travelled down to Dorchester – they gave us great support.   It didn’t come off, but we move on.

“Don’t get down about it. Let’s keep enjoying where we are.  We are enjoying the season.”
