We can go the whole Hogg, admits Darts boss Burman

Friday 12th January 2007
Dartford midfielder Anthony Hogg has joined their Ryman League Division One South rivals Sittingbourne on a month’s loan in order to regain full match fitness, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Darts welcome Burgess Hill Town to Princes Park tomorrow and boss Tony Burman wants his side to emulate their opening day’s performance.

Burman’s boys opened their campaign with a 6-1 victory, with Brendon Cass (3), Jay May (2) amongst the scorers, to make their intent known to the rest of the division.

“On the day I think it was one of our best performance from the team this season,” Burman recalled when speaking to www.dartfordfootballclub.co.uk.

“I don’t think our opponents were bad, we were just excellent.

“I have no doubt our opponents will try and avenge that defeat and we are in for a tough game.

“But we have to be mentally strong and believe in what we are doing because we are a good side who are also going to be tough to beat.”

Third placed Dartford, meanwhile, are just three points behind leaders Dulwich Hamlet – but with a game in hand.

Burman, whose side are six league games unbeaten, watched two games at the weekend.

Ashford Town were leading 2-0 at half-time at Hayes Lane on Saturday, but their game against Cray Wanderers was abandoned following a heavy downpour.

Then on Sunday he saw Dulwich Hamlet beat Dover Athletic with a comprehensive
3-1 win at Champion Hill.

“With last week’s game at Molesey being called off, it gave me a chance to watch some of our opponents in action,” he said.

”Yes, I was one of the crowd over at East Thurrock (in their 1-0 home defeat to Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday night) watching the standard of play in the league above us.

“With the weather conditions the way they are, many teams are struggling, not only to play games but to put on training sessions during the week.

“This is a major headache for managers and coaches and I am just thankful that it’s a problem that we do not have any more because of the community pitch at Princes Park.”

Key defender, Richard Avery, meanwhile, is responding well to treatment and will be going through some light training this week.

But midfielder, Steve Hafner (suspended) has been ruled-out but midfielder Carl Bruce, a recent signing from Barking, striker James Carter, whose been out on loan at Kent League side Tunbridge Wells and Ted Ansell have been added to the squad.
