We are now looking to emulate last season's run, says Ramsgate boss Tim Dixon

RAMSGATE boss Tim Dixon says he wants his side to go on a run and grab a play-off place at the end of the season.

The Rams are in eighth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 35 points from 24 games.

Dixon’s side are seven points adrift of fifth-placed Guernsey, who occupy the final play-off berth.

Ramsgate kick-start their campaign with a Kent derby against Sam Denly’s Herne Bay at Southwood Stadium on Saturday.

The Bay last took to the field on 21 December when they came away from Guernsey with a 4-2 defeat and subsequent games against Whitstable Town, Folkestone Invicta, Faversham Town and Worthing were all called off because of the weather.

Ramsgate, meanwhile, have played a couple of games during that period, thrashing Hastings United 5-0 at home on Boxing Day, before going down to a 5-2 defeat at Faversham Town 48 hours later.

Dixon said: “We have been a bit luckier over Christmas than some teams as we managed to play Boxing Day and the 28th, but we have had a litlte break over the New Year to allow the players to get over a couple of niggles.

“Since then, we have managed a few (training) sessions with the lads and we also utilise the facilities at Bay Point at Sandwich who have been very supportive of Ramsgate FC.”

Herne Bay arrive at Southwood Stadium sitting slap bang in the middle of the table, having collected 31 points from 23 games.

Dixon said: “Another Kent derby to get on with, which we will be treating like any other and giving Herne Bay 100% respect, which they deserve.

“Sam is doing a fantastic job for them and gradually building his own team with his own ideas as manager and it will be a very competitive match.”

Dixon wants his side to string a run of positive results together to close the gap on the Channel Islanders, who come to Ramsgate next Tuesday.

Dixon said: “We are now looking to emulate the run like last season when we came from nowhere to come within one point off the play-offs.”
