We are making steady progress at Hythe Town, says boss Tim Dixon

HYTHE TOWN boss Tim Dixon says he is making steady progress at the club.

Dixon is in his first season in charge at Reachfields Stadium and the club have started slowly this season.

They sit in sixteenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table, having collected six wins, seven draws and nine defeats.

The Cannons came away from unbeaten league leaders Burgess Hill Town with a 2-2 draw last weekend, before thrashing Guernsey 6-0 at home in midweek.

“At the moment, we are making steady progress at Hythe Town,” said the former Ramsgate boss.

“After last Saturday’s excellent point at unbeaten Burgess Hill, where we came within five minutes of victory, we entertained Guernsey on Tuesday night.

“We managed to finally gain a decent win at home scoring six and keeping a clean sheet at the same time which was very pleasing.

“We played some decent football at times but after a much needed chat at half time when we were 2-0 up, I was really pleased that complacency never settled in and the lads were more disciplined in the second half, going on to complete a comfortable victory.”

Hythe Town welcome Herne Bay to Reachfields Stadium on Saturday.

Sam Denly’s side have climbed up to seventh-place in the table and are only one point adrift of the play-offs.

Dixon said: “We need to keep the momentum going and it would be nice to pick the same team every week, but unfortunately we have to change things around this weekend because of suspensions and injuries.”

Missing will be James Morrish and Dave Cook as they both start three-match suspensions but coming back into the squad will be John Walker, who missed the match against Guernsey through illness.

Dixon revealed that Lewis Mingle and Sam Conlon are getting a bit closer to full fitness although they may be a week or two off yet.

He added: “This weekend’s game at home to an ever-improving Herne Bay side will be another very difficult local derby and a big test for our small squad, but we will get our heads down and try to put in another good performance.”
