Video evidence proves officials got it wrong - twice

Tuesday 23rd January 2007
Craig Wilkins’ red card in the 3-0 home win against Croydon Athletic last Tuesday has been overturned by the FA, writes Justin Allen. The Dover Athletic striker was sent-off for violent conduct but DAFCtv highlights clearly show that Wilkins simply tangled legs with a Croydon Athletic player and did not kick or stamp on his opponent.

It is the second red card Dover have had overturned in the space of a couple of weeks. Nicky Humphrey was dismissed at Dulwich Hamlet for what was seen as a professional foul - but again video footage showed that the referee got that decision wrong.

Both red cards were overturned by the FA's video appeals panel.

Delighted chairman Jim Parmenter told www.doverathletic.com: "We all thought the decision was wrong after viewing the video evidence.

"I thought we might not get the card overturned, purely based on the fact we had just had a successful appeal a week earlier.

"Thank goodness we have got Dave Shirley, who provides these highlights. It's not only great for our fans to view but helps the club in situations like this."

Craig will now not have to serve a three-match ban.

Dover Athletic travel to Chatham Town tonight to play their Kent Senior Cup first round tie.  The game at Maidstone Road kick’s off at 7:45pm.
