Michael Power leaves relegated VCD Athletic by mutual consent

Tuesday 09th May 2023

VCD ATHLETIC have parted company with manager Michael Power by mutual consent.

The Crayford-based club finished their Isthmian League South East Division campaign in the bottom four, having collected 38 points from their 38 league outings.

However, the club’s 10 year stint in the Isthmian League (including two seasons in the Premier Division) came to an end after losing 1-0 at home to local rivals Phoenix Sports in the Inter-Step Play-Off.

Ryan Hayes held his nerve by scoring a last-gasp penalty at Oakwood, which sent Steve O’Boyle’s side back into the Isthmian League after suffering relegation 53 weeks earlier, as the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division runners-up were promoted alongside champions Erith & Belvedere.

“Following a meeting with Michael, both parties are in agreement that this is for the best,” said a club statement.

“Power was in charge for the final 11 games of the season and despite battling valiantly until the end, he was unable to save us from relegation.

“VCD would like to go on record in thanking Michael and his coaching staff along with the players for their efforts this season.

“We wish Michael and all his staff the very best at their next club.”

The club have also confirmed that Dean Harrison, Lorri Jeffery, Steve Northwood and Jack Mahoney have also left Oakwood tonight.

Power, who replaced Grant Basey in February, lost eight of his 11 games in his first managerial job, as VCD Athletic suffered the drop alongside Haywards Heath Town, Faversham Town and Corinthian.

VCD Athletic will be under a new management team for their Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division return.
