TUNBRIDGE WELLS manager Jason Bourne says he is plotting a FA Cup upset at Concord Rangers on Saturday.

The Wells travel to Canvey Island to lock horns with Adam Flanagan’s side, who play three levels higher in the Vanarama National League South.  They are second-from-bottom in the table with two wins and a draw from 11 league outings and it is this form that gives Bourne plenty of hope going into the Second Qualifying Round tie.

“We are very much looking forward to our FA Cup trip to Concord, which is the furthest the club has been in The FA Cup for 38 years and brought in a good source of revenue in the process,” said Bourne.

“We’ve done our homework on and off the pitch to make sure that the lads know what we need to do and how we are going to it to ensure we are in the hat on Monday.

“I played with Adam Flanagan at St Leonard’s when I was 18.  He’s a great bloke and was a top player so I know those qualities will be in his management style too.”

Tunbridge Wells needed extra-time to beat Haywards Heath 3-0 in a replay in the last round and must play better if they are to cause an upset in Essex.

The Wells go into the game on the back of a 1-0 home win over Croydon and as a result go into Saturday’s game in 12th place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with two wins and two draws from five league outings.

“I don’t buy into the whole underdog ethos to be honest. It’s a mindset and preparation to fail in my opinion,” said Bourne.

“My boys don’t need that safety net around them. Saturday is all about my team going to battle with another, simple as that and they need to know that with that pressure to win comes my belief that they will.

“Saturday is not a day our or a milestone for the club. It’s a game of football that we are going all out to win and although it sounds arrogant, the lads we have in our changing room and the togetherness we have, will be the leveller on the day.”
