Tonbridge Angels search for new boss while Steve Brown hails Ebbsfleet's play-off spot

Friday 25th April 2014
TONBRIDGE ANGELS are inviting applications for candidates for the vacant managerial position at Longmead Stadium.

The club suffered relegation from the Skrill South following their embarrassing 7-1 defeat away to fellow strugglers Chelmsford City on Easter Monday, which was followed by Tommy Warrilow’s resignation.

The Angels spent three seasons in Conference South, finishing their first season in ninth-place, followed by fifteenth-place and go into tomorrow’s final game at home to play-off chasing Havant & Waterlooville sitting in the bottom two on 39 points.

Warrilow takes charge of the club for the final time against the Hawks, who must win to secure fifth-place, which will give them a two-legged tussle against runners-up Sutton United.

If the Angels finish their sorry campaign with a win, Dover Athletic can grab that last play-off place if they come away from Woking with a victory over Hayes & Yeading United.

If will be Hayes & Yeading’s last game at Kingfield Stadium, as they will move to Maidenhead United’s ground next season.

Ebbsfleet United secured their play-off place last night to finish in fourth-place after coming away from Concord Rangers with a 2-1 victory.

Fleet boss Steve Brown told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk: “It was a fantastic result under trying circumstances and the character shown by the team was very pleasing and the winning goal by Daryl McMahon was worthy of winning any football match.

“The last 20 minutes was certainly a roller-coaster of emotions for everyone and it was nice to finally hear the full-time whistle blow knowing that we have secured the play-off spot.”

The Fleet welcome basement side Dorchester Town to Stonebridge Road tomorrow – a game which is FREE for everyone to watch.

Brown added: “The players have worked very hard to achieve the goal we set at the start of the season and it’s very pleasing and rewarding when you manage to attain goals that have been set.”

The Fleet will welcome their Kent rivals Bromley to Stonebridge Road next Wednesday, 30th April in the play-off first leg, before travelling to Hayes Lane on Saturday, 3rd May.

Away goals do not count and if scores are level after 90 minutes in the second leg, then the game will go to extra-time or even penalties.

The play-off final, which will be played at the club that finished the highest in the league, will be played on Saturday, 10 May.

Meanwhile, Tonbridge Angels begin the search for a new management team for their Ryman Premier League return next August.

Club captain Gary Elphick has already confirmed his departure, whilst home grown players Sonny Miles and Jon Heath have said that they will stay loyal to their beloved club.

“Are you a highly organised, energetic and motivated football manager with a proven track record at a senior level, as well as a qualified coach with experience of overseeing the development of young footballers to meet their potential? If so then you may be just the person we are looking for,” said a club statement.

“We are looking for the right candidate to become an integral part of the clubs future and manage our first team playing in the Ryman Premier League next season.

“The role will provide an opportunity to work within a forward looking club with good facilities and a sound financial footing.”

Applicants are required to provide a CV with a covering letter to support your application and send it to club secretary Charlie Cole c/o Longmead Stadium, Darenth Avenue, Tonbridge, Kent TN10 3JF, or email it to chcole1063@aol.com and mark it as First Team Manager Vacancy.
