Thorogood steps aside

Wednesday 22nd November 2006

The board of Ashford Town Football Club have announced today that Tim Thorogood has decided to stand down as joint-manager with “immediate effect”.

Mr Thorogood has managed the first team since taking over the club in March 2001 and this would have been his sixth season in charge at The Homelands.

Chief Executive Mr Mark Jenner explained to www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk that Mr Thorogood’s business has grown and that he cannot devote all his time to the Ryman League Division One South club.

He said: “During that time his own business, Excelsior4 Limited, has grown considerably in size and therefore now requires far more of his time and attention to run leaving insufficient time to devote to football on a regular basis.

“Tim will continue as chairman and will adopt the role of director of football to oversee all the footballing activities of the club.”

John Cumberbatch will continue as the sole manager of the first team starting with the game against Horsham YMCA at The Homelands on Saturday and it is expected that an assistant manager will be appointed very shortly.

Mr Jenner added: “The board wishes John the best of luck in this role and welcomes Tim to the directors box for match days.”
