The SYKO CHALLENGE is on SUNDAY!

Monday 24th April 2006

This Sunday 30th April will see Kent football players and fans come together to remember and celebrate one of the most popular players the county has seen. Paul Sykes – Syko – suddenly collapsed and sadly died on April 12th 2005 playing for Folkestone Invicta against Margate in the semi-final of the Kent Senior Cup.

The programme for the day includes a youth challenge match between Margate and St Margarets (Paul helped to manage the St Margarets youth team), prize draw, on line auction of sporting and TV memorabilia and the main event itself, the SYKO CHALLNEGE.

The two sides will be made up of players who have either played with or against Paul during his years with Gillingham, Welling, Margate, Dover, Dartford and Folkestone football clubs.

One side will be managed by former Margate manager Chris Kinnear – Paul’s manager during the most successful period of his career – and the other by Clive Walker, manager of Dover Athletic.

Kinnear’s side will include many familiar faces from the successful Margate sides of 1998 through to 2001, and Clive Walker will be able to call on former Gillingham stars Andy Hessenthaler and Mark Saunders.

The match officials will include Steve Bennett and Martin Yerby from the Premiership.

Gates open at 1pm on Sunday, with kick-off of the youth challenge at 1.30pm followed by the SYKO CHALLNEGE at 3pm. Entry will cost £5 for adults, £1 for under 16’s with souvenir programmes available at £2 each. All proceeds will go to the SYKO CHALLENGE fund.
