There have been encouraging positives from game to game, says Deal Town boss Dave Johncock

DEAL TOWN newly-appointed manager Dave Johncock says he’s currently in the process of rebuilding the squad.

Darren Anslow left the club after only eight games in charge at The Charles Sports Ground and former Lydd Town boss Johncock saw the side go down to a 3-2 defeat to Epsom Athletic in The FA Vase last weekend, before bouncing back with a 1-1 draw at home to Lordswood in midweek.

The club have appointed Johncock as their new manager, with Paul Egan (assistant manager), Derek Hare (chairman/coach) and Darren Heales (coach) forming their new management team.

“It was a good point and nice for the club to finally get off the mark in what was my first league game since stepping up,” said Johncock.

“I felt we could’ve had all three points and probably deserved them.

“We knew we would have a hard game on our hands as Lordswood are a genuine team, but I thought we handled them pretty well and caused them more problems going forward than they did us.

“I was really pleased that Dan Miller got his goal as because both games I’ve taken for the first team he has been excellent.”

Deal Town travel to Sevenoaks Town tomorrow still sitting at the foot of the Southern Counties East Football League table with one point from five games.

Micky Collins’ side are in fifth-place with four wins and one defeat in the league so far.

“It will be our third game in eight days, which is nice that they come thick and fast as we’re starting again really due to the fact that about 13-14 of the players left at the same time as Darren Anslow,” said Johncock.

“We’ve only had two training sessions together but there have been more positives from game-to-game, which is encouraging.

“The squad still needs strengthening – in numbers more than quality – but we will do that over the next couple of weeks.

“Sevenoaks have had a decent start and have some very good players, but we have to prove that we are just as good!”
