The most important thing is to stay in this division, says Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow

TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow says he knows the importance of winning Saturday’s crunch game against Eastbourne Borough and beating the drop.

The Angels have lost their last three games and lie in eighteenth-place in the Blue Square Bet (Conference) South table, with 36 points from 32 games.

They have 30 points to play for and Warrilow wants to maintain the club’s Conference South status.

Eastbourne Borough arrive at Longmead Stadium sitting one-place below the Angels in the table with 35 points from 31 games, so Tonbridge Angels must win this game after collecting three points from their last six league games.

But Warrilow said: “I’m not going to bill games up as must wins or whatever because there’s still 30 points to play for.

”If you’re not going to beat the sides in and around you, you’re going to make life difficult for yourselves.”

When asked how many points his side must bag to avoid a return to the Ryman Premier League after two seasons, Warrilow admitted: “I wouldn’t even hazard a guess of it this year, it’s so tight!

”I just want to get some points on the table because we’ve had a horrendous run of results.

”Like I said to the lads, you don’t get everything your own way in life and it’s been hard the last six games but that’s when you’ve got to start showing a bit of character and dig in and just see the season out.

”Hopefully at the end of the season we can reflect on it and the most important thing is to stay in this division.

”I want us to still improve on last year (when we finished in ninth-place) and I want a little Cup Final at the end of it and that’s still the main aim.”

The Angels, who are two points above the relegation zone, are nine points behind ninth-placed Bromley and are in the Kent Senior Cup (Sponsored by Portablefloodlights.com) Semi-Finals when they will face the winner of the tie between Margate and Ebbsfleet United.

Meanwhile, the Angels welcome full-time outfit Eastleigh to Longmead Stadium next Tuesday (7:45pm).
